How to Play
Fruit Code
Fruit Code is a Mastermind-style code-breaking game. Every day there is a new secret row of four fruits, chosen from six. You have five guesses to find it, and after every guess you get small squares that tell you how close you were.
Rules

- The secret code is four fruits in a row, taken from six: apple, blueberry, pear, banana, orange and grapes. The same fruit can be in the code more than once.
- Tap fruits to fill a row with your guess, then press Check.
- A black square means one of your fruits is the right fruit in the right place.
- A white square means one of your fruits is in the code, but in another place.
- An empty square means that fruit is not in the code (or all its places are already counted). Each square sits in the same place as the fruit it is about: the second square belongs to the second fruit.
- You have five guesses. Fruit Code is a relaxed game: it earns no points and has no ranking, only a streak.
Tips & Strategy
- Open with two different fruits, twice each (for example apple, apple, pear, pear). The squares quickly tell you which of the two are in the code and roughly where.
- Every square is information. Keep track of the fruits you have ruled out and don't use them again, unless you are testing a place.
- A white square tells you to move a fruit: put it in a different place in your next guess.
- Fruits can repeat, so a code like apple, apple, pear, banana is possible. If a fruit gets a square, test it in two places.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can the same fruit be in the code twice?
- Yes. A fruit can appear up to four times in the code, so a guess with the same fruit more than once is perfectly valid.
- What does an empty square mean?
- One of your fruits does not match anything that is left in the code: either that fruit is not in the code at all, or every place it could count for is already taken by a black or white square. Each square belongs to the fruit in the same place: the second square is about your second fruit.
- Do I ever have to guess?
- Yes. The first guess is always a guess, and sometimes a later one is too. Fruit Code is a relaxed game, not a logic puzzle that has to be solved without guessing, and it gives no points and has no ranking. After the first guesses, logic does most of the work.
