Games Like Wordle: Free Word Games and a Fruit Code Twist

20 October 2026 · 2 min read

You have guessed today's Wordle and the itch is not gone. Here are free games like Wordle you can play right away in your browser, with no account: two word games and one code-breaking puzzle that works on the same "guess and get a clue" idea.

Five Letter Word and Vijf Letters

Five Letter Word gives you six tries to find a secret five-letter English word. After every guess a letter turns green (right letter, right place), yellow (in the word, wrong place) or grey (not in the word). Vijf Letters is the same game with a Dutch word, handy if you want to practise or simply have more to play.

Fruit Code: guessing with fruit

Fruit Code swaps letters for fruit. Today's secret code is a row of four fruits, picked from six: apple, blueberry, pear, banana, orange and grapes. A fruit can appear more than once. You have five guesses, and after each one every place gets a little square: black for the right fruit in the right place, white for a fruit that is in the code but elsewhere, and empty for a fruit that is not in the code.

Tips that work for all three

  • Open with variety. In the word games, start with a word that has several common, different letters. In Fruit Code, try two fruits twice, like apple, apple, pear, pear.
  • Every clue counts. Keep track of what you have ruled out and do not reuse it, unless you are testing a place.
  • Move the yellow and the white. A yellow letter or a white square means the right piece is in the wrong place, so put it somewhere else next time.
  • Use your last guesses to solve. Once you are fairly sure, stop testing and go for the answer.

Relaxed, on purpose

These three are the relaxed games of PuzzleDose: they earn no points and have no ranking, only a streak. Wordle belongs to The New York Times and PuzzleDose is not affiliated with it. These games are simply inspired by the same idea. If you want something with more logic and less guessing, Crowns and Binario are a good next stop.
